Horizons Seafood festival at Twin Towns

Horizons’ Seafood Festival kicks off Monday 8th February with the best in local produce and imaginative cuisine.

Featured dishes include the mouth-watering Macadamia Crusted Snapper, Greek Style Octopus Salad, Szechuan Pepper & Salt Squid, Prawn Scallop & Bacon Skewer and Lobster Florentine.

Food & Beverage Manager Mr Kim Chilcott has orchestrated the event.  “This is the second year of the Seafood Festival and in 2010, it’s part of the Seafood Discovery Trail, featuring Currumbin to Cabarita.”

The Southern Gold Coast and Tweed regions have joined forces to develop the Seafood Discovery Trail, showcasing and promoting the year-round source of diverse and splendid local and international seafood, prepared and presented according to the traditions of our region.  The Horizons’ Seafood Festival is proud to be part of this initiative.

Its now official, the Seafood Discovery Trail has begun!

Here are some photo’s from the launch event held at Tweed Marina.

Fishing, boating and surf reporter for Nine’s Gold Coast News, Paul Burt, MC’d the proceedings and was joined by Chef Steve Snow, owner of Finns Restaurant and Bar to talk about the regions traditions of preparing and presenting seafood!

“The Seafood Discovery trail offers an exciting new way to experience the traditional pasttimes of the area which has always been a favourite haunt for anglers,” said Jim Wilson, general manager of Connecting Southern Gold Coast. “It’s also renowned as the best place to buy fresh seafood, with our fish markets stocked every day with locally caught prawns, tuna, snapper, mahi mahi, spanner crabs and muddies, as well as our locally grown and harvested Tweed River oysters.”

The 35km Seafood Discovery Trail is unique to Qld and NSW with a huge offering of restaurants, cafes, co-ops and tours, including tips on the best places to catch your own seafood, featuring over 55 seafood operators in the region!!
